The business concept, ReCYCLE ROOM became a reality after returning home 3 months post Hurricane Irma and Maria in 2017. Never before has the island witnessed such mass destruction. I imagine it similar to a war torn country under constant siege. In this case, thee opponent was Mother Nature.
The imagery was disturbing, scary and unsettling. Once a pristine piece of paradise was now a community that looked like it was put into a blender and spit out. The pictures to the left don't give the beauty or the devastation of the island justice.
As reality settled in, I accepted this new normal. Climate Change is real and affects EVERYONE. EVERYWHERE. I can no longer ignore it because we all have the ability to do something. Collectively we CAN be successful. Nothing is too small a gesture. Mindfulness goes a long way too.
Several months post hurricanes Irma and Maria while the island healed, I reflected on what I wanted for my children, future generations and how I could bring back levity, life and a sense of empowerment to the community.
Somehow my two passions (family and fitness) simultaneously began to morph into a unique business model. Integrating a healthy fitness regimen into a boutique studio setting while interjecting subliminal messages of conscious consumption, mindfulness of physical health and environmental wealth.
All merchandise sold at the Recycle Room will provide environmental, social and economic benefits while protecting the environment over their whole life cycle, from the extraction of raw materials until the final disposal. We must collectively begin making conscious consistent sustainable purchasing decisions.
